Dear Mr. Hall,

I have learned that your school is providing scholarships to those who have a record of academic achievement and have a strong desire to become a professional nurse. I'm writing to let you know of my interest if obtaining a scholarship for your highly regarded nursing program.

I am a caregiver graduate and want very much to receive the academic qualifications necessary for a licensed professional nurse. Please be kind enough to review my scholarship application, essay, and academic record enclosed.

It would be a culmination of my desires and efforts toward my goal to be a participant in the Kansas School's excellent nursing program. Please contact me at (phone number), (email address), or my return address above with your response to my application. Thank you for your kind consideration.

All business correspondence should be simple and to the point. The first paragraph clearly states why you are writing; the second paragraph provides the information for the recipient to make a decision, which in this case is directing attention to the attachments (don't repeat what the recipient will find in the attachments, only name or describe them); the third paragraph is known as the 'call to action', what you expect the recipient to do with the contact information necessary to do it (even if it's found in other parts of the correspondence, don't make the recipient a search for it), followed by an expression of thanks. This is all that's necessary; the information necessary for the recipient to make the decision should be in the attachments. If this was a job application letter, the 'call to action' would be to ask them to contact you to set up an appointment for an interview; other application letters would ask for whatever the next appropriate action would be.
