it is important because you dont want to be known by refs as a dirty player. and you are representing your achool and you dont want your school to be knwon as a dirty sportmanship school. especialy in Basketball it is important to keep goood sportmanship because as soon as you start playing sirty the ref wil call everything on you.
Because - just as in most situations, there are rules which should be followed. Following the rules, usually means that disputes are kept to a minimum. Etiquette is simply observing and adhering to the rules of the sport.
It shows character to other people. You'll find that if you are respectful and a good sport and have good character your more likely to be reconized by someone. If you are planning on trying to get a scholarship in a sport then character means a lot, so just make sure you're being respectful and don't cheat!
