Because when you do sports you are using your body parts at a much faster pace, therefore using your muscles faster means it needs more oxygen. This is done through the cardiovascular system which basically includes the heart, lungs, artery's and veins, all this is a area in health related fitness along with balance, muscular strengh, body composition and muscular endurance. So all together you need more oxygen to go to your muscle's so the heavier you breath the more oxygen gets pumped around to where needed.
