One of the all-time great Patriots players wore #71, Ray "Sugar Bear" Hamilton. He is best known for the phantom Roughing the Passer call in the 1976 playoffs versus the Oakland Raiders. The call lead to an eventual Raiders touchdown and knocked a talented Patriots team out of the playoffs. The Raiders went on to win the Super Bowl that year.
