A piccalo is a woodwind instrument. It is similar, although much smaller in appearance to the flute.
piccalo
its probably the piccalo
A piccalo is not a percussion instrument, it is a member of the woodwind family. As far as physical description goes a piccalo look much like a miniture flute and is played in the same manner as a flute. In terms of pich the piccalo is easily discribed as high piched with notes that range from the high range of a flute and higher. When put into music a piccalo is heard playing a part similar to that of the flute just in a range in which the flute cannot play. The piece "Stars and Stripes Forever" by John Philip Sousa has a very recognizable piccalo soli section. If you would like to hear an example look up the song on your favorite video website.
Next to the flutes.
