In the early 90's Sandy Alcide was also a Reebok step champion. She was never one for the spot light.
Sandy changed her athletic persona to a distance runner in the mid 90's. She came forth and spoke out about all the red tape regarding the judges in step competition. She placed 6th in the International Turks & Caicos Island Reebok Championship out of 100 women. Only two women, including Sandy Alcide, represented the United States.
Sandy is also an advocate for ovarian cancer being a Survivor of it. This is the reason why she declined appearing at some races while she was under going treatment. She ran the grueling Vermont City Marathon in May 2010 at a sub 4:28 pace with a stress fracture and had a cheering crowd for her at the finish line, mostly ovarian cancer survivors.
