If the way you determine 'better' is by monetary compensation, Ronaldo is better.

If the measure is the number of goals scored internationally, Messi has 19 in 66 matches, Ronaldo has 7 in 40 matches, which makes Messi the better soccer player.

that is an interesting question. If you were going on current form christiano renaldo wins out but over their careers renaldinho has had more experience and has done lots more amazing things. In both players cases if either of them are at their best they are very exciting players to watch and would be right up there with the best players in the world.
