Jim Thorpe (1887-1953) of Native American descent, played professional Baseball and football and in the 1912 Olympics he won the gold in the pentathlon and the decathlon. King Gustav V presented Thorpe with his gold medals for both accomplishments. Before Jim Thorpe could walk away, the king grabbed his hand and said, "Sir, you are the greatest athlete in the world". Thorpe, answered simple, humbly and honestly, "Thanks King."
