That is a tough question. Mostly because there is such a wide range of "Competitive" shooters.

Most probably struggle to make 40k or 60k per year, while a handful of greats like Rob Leatham or Todd Jarrett make 100k+. Look and see what the purses are for a big competition...remember that much of that money is spent on necessities and subsistence including travel, ammo, and gear.

Most of the shooters that you see will probably are also working stiffs, trying to balance full time employment with practice, and regular trips across the country to attend matches. Much of the help will come in the form of sponsorships, but they will also require the "sponsoree" to spend time pimping their products too.
