Not exactly. If you look at Basketball, one would say that Kobe Bryant would be the most valuable player. That is because he is a pure scorer, he doesn't block shots, he won't get rebounds, and he doesn't share the ball. He just takes over the game and can literally wins it for you, all by himself. That is what they call the Mvp. Now when someone says versatile, the first name that comes to my mind is LeBron James. He is also a great scorer (not as good as Kobe points wise), what makes him versatile is that he can pile up the assists, rebounds, blocked shots, and points in a hurry. He gets his whole team involved in the game. And another example is lets say Mark Teixeira, he can hit a lot of home runs and have a lot of runs batted in. but look at someone like Chone Figgins for example who can play several different positions, can hit for extra bases, steals a ton of bases, hits for a high average, has a lot of hits. People like figgins and scutaro will never win MVP, but they are one of the most cherished players in their respective game.
