What types of woods are used for a wooden hockey stick?

Aromatic cedar would be the first thought. One, it has a natural moisture equiliberant about it, and two, natural aromatic ceder tends to fend-off, deter, critters. Moths, ants, termites and other assorted, sundry,detrimental varmits that depend on fabric and material for staple.

Wooden hockey sticks are made from either hardwood or laminate wood. Maple, birch, aspen, ramin or ash are usually the type of wood used. Sometimes, more than one type of wood is used to make a single stick. Heavy sticks are usually made out of hardwoods such as birch or ash. Lighter sticks are normally with a solid low density wooden core made from a light hardwood such as aspen or ramin and reinforced with fiberglass.

But wood sticks, unless you are a manufacturer with paid engineers, are almost impossible to gauge what the flex will be. Also most woodens sticks have a fiberglass core or coating. Wood sticks also splinter, fracture, and crack each time they are flexed which will inevitably lead to them breaking. Composite sticks are lighter, more predictable, and will last longer.
