At the age of 13 Michelangelo was apprenticed to Domenico Ghirlandaio, a respected artist of the time. However, Michelangelo wasn't happy with the speed in which he was learning so after a year he left Ghirlandaio's teaching to become a student of Bertoldo di Giovanni.
