Jilinda original art of self defense. it is a shorten version of the more cumbersome kiswahili term sanaa ya kujilinda. it is a martial art founded by Mwalimu Mkuu Juma Mshabazi. its based on his familys martial art. that is said to be from the moors in afrika. a family forght tooth and nail on Virginia plantations in the US. and passed on to him in 1960s. its original name lost in captivity it was reclaimed and modernized as jilinda original art of self defense in the 1970s. jilinda was inspired by yangumi the first afrikan named art in the new world. the name yangumi was coined by maulana karenga founder of kwanzaa.
