They are both movement based performing art techniques based on a particular aesthetic. They both evolved over a period of time. They both include both male and female dancers. They both usually use a stage/music/theme when performing. They both require a considerable amount of time to develop the individuals technique. They both express emotions, tell a story, interact with the audience in some way. They both are recognized as different techniques. They both require 'core' strength. They both can create injuries in dancers. They both are enjoyable to watch and perform/learn.

modern dance is the same by both starting aroung the 100s and having struture.

Modern dance is sort of like the "less strict" version of Ballet. In ballet, turn outs, points, ankles, knees, posture, and all that are extremely important and ballerinas spend years in perfecting them. However in modern, there are no turn outs, instead they turn in (in terms of the direction your knees are facing), and they don't emphasize on your point either. Modern is something less "formal" and "'strict" compared to ballet i guess.

Ballet: It is a dance that is generally associated with graceful, elegant movements. Ballet was developed in Italy, and was formed from a type of ballroom dancing. To learn more about this art, go to: www.theworldofballet.webs.com. It has all sorts of stretching techniques and it has the history of ballet written out.

Modern: It is a type of dancing that shows your own movement and your own interpretation of something. It can be slow with flowing movement, or fast with sharp movement. It is kind of like a free moving type of ballet. Unlike ballet, modern uses more turn-in. Modern has all kinds of rolls in it, as well.

I hope this helps a little :) Good luck!

Modern is not the same thing as ballet as ballet is classical movements of the body and modern is modern dance but it is not the same as street dance, as it can be classical but not ballet.
Also for modern you can wear dance trainers which you cannot use in ballet.
Ballet you would have to wear point(e) shoes and soft ballet shoes.

they are not similar, in my modern dance class my teacher corrects me when I do the steps like a ballerina. But the only thing I can think of that ballet and modern go together in is rhythm.

ballet is very classical and an old, traditional dance. modern dance is more free and less restricted and diciplined.
