Yes, Alabama DOES have small earthquakes from time to time. In fact an earthquake struck southeast of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on the morning of April 21, 2009. The Bibb County earthquake, which occurred about 3 miles underground, measured 3.8 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was about four miles to the north of Centreville. There were no reports of injuries or damages after the earthquake, which struck at 5:25 a.m. local time.1 The largest earthquake in Alabama's most recent history occurred in 2003, when an earthquake rocked DeKalb county on April 29, 2009. Alabama's 2003 earth quake was a 4.9 magnitude and could be felt in several nearby states, as far away as Indiana.
