Jesus is called the good sheperd as sorta a metaphor God is the shepard and christians are his sheep. The devil would be the theif or wolf or lion that tries to steal the lamb away. The feild in which the sheep dwell in portrais heaven and the gate to the feild is Jesus. All must get to God/The shepherd through the son/Jesus/The gate. Hope that helps.

Although Christ can exhibit any and all characteristics He, by His very nature as God, chooses to reveal only those that are true, virtuous and beneficial for His followers to exhibit.

1. Humility - Throughout scripture Jesus is revealed as a truly humble man, only

talking about Himself in a way that is helpful to others.

2. Love - Jesus is love incarnate; He is God's love for mankind expressed in

human form

3. Service - His only concern was for those around Him, and all He did was for

others

4. Joy - Jesus revealed His true joy through not only what He did, but how

He did it

5. Optimism - He had and was the promise of God, and we have that same

promise; that of eternal life and peace

6. Obedience - Jesus was faithful to the call of God, even when that call led to

great personal sacrifice

7. Forgiveness - Jesus always had it in His heart to forgive, serving as a simple

reflection of the love of God

Jesus meant that He was the one you should follow. You should follow Him the way a shepherd's sheep follow him. If you follow Jesus like sheep follow a shepherd, you will be lead to the Holy Land.

At the end of the world, it is said that there will be a whole bunch of fakes saying, "come with me! I know where God is!" But all in all they are lying and he is the GOOD shepherd. Not the ones who are talking to talk or lead you to Hell.

What symbols are in Christ as the Good Shepherd from Galla Placidia?

Unfortunately, I can't answer the specific question, but here's a link to information on the impressive mausoleum in Ravenna associated with her name. I hope it's some use to you. See the Related Link for "Basilica di San Vitale" to the bottom for the answer. (You'll need to scroll down some way). The mosaic in a Lunette of the entrance wall to the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia does not contain as much symbolism as the Good Shepherd Apse mosaic in Saint' Apollinaire (549). Christ is still the Good Shepherd in the Galla Placidia mosaic (425-450), but a few subtle changes lead to the future portrayals of Christ as King. In the Lunette, Jesus no longer carries a lamb on his shoulders, he sits in the center of the composition, quite regal and isolated somewhat, gaze focused outward, with a halo and is robed in gold and purple (the colors of Royalty). The flock is evenly split into groups of three on each side of Christ. A carefully constructed landscape suggests all we need is here, the blue sky suggests we are still on earth with the chance to join the flock.
