If your vehicle has an automatic belt tensioner with a serpentine belt, the belt is worn and needs to be replaced. On older models, the belt tension can be set by adjusting it at the alternator bracket. Loosen but do not remove the two bolts that hold the alternator in place (one at the bracket and one on the block) and pull the alternator to tighten the belt. Hold in position while re-tightening the bracket bolt then tighten the bolt on the block.
on my Saturn the tensioner was below ac compressor closer to center of engine you put wrench on bolt in center and turn clockwise and will move to loosen tension and will have to hold it there will removing or installing belt
Stripes are used by many schools as an indication of intermediate ranks between the solid belts. Some use s strip running the length of the belt to indicate a rank higher then the other color on the belt. Some use stripes around the ends to indicate the same thing. On a black belt the number of stripes indicate the Dan level of the individual.
The alternator is mounted on an adjustment bracket. You can loosen the lower bolt a couple turns then loosen the upper bolt a couple turns and slide the alternator forward to get the old belt off and the new belt on. Hold the alternator back with a big screwdriver or breaker bar to re-tension the new belt while you tighten the top bolt, then tighten the bottom bolt.
