You don't have to hit that hard at all. Ribs are fairly fragile, but it also depends on which rib and where you hit the rib. The bottom ribs are obviously easier to break than the top ribs.
I broke my older sisters ribs when I was 12 years old( I'm the younger sister, not brother). That was before I had any Martial Arts training. Now that I know how, I try to avoid hitting people. You can do a surprising amount of damage to another person with just your hands.
Peoples ribs are broken all the time just doing CPR. And that's pressure not impact.

well, it depends how hard you get hit, a rib injury is a very common injury to have but if you do have a rib injury it will take 5 or 6 weeks for it could heal but whatever you do, do not break your ribs because it will be even more deadly.
depending on the rib yes. it will be stiff and painfull to move the rib.
A rib fracture is a crack or break in one of the bones of the rib cage. A break in the thick tissue (cartilage) that connects the ribs to the breastbone may also be called a fractured rib, even if the bone itself is not broken. The most common cause of a fractured rib is a direct blow to the chest, often from a car accident or a fall. Coughing hard can also fracture a rib. This is more likely to happen if you have a disease that has made your bones weak, such as osteoporosis or cancer. It is important to see a doctor after a rib injury. A blow that is hard enough to fracture a rib could also injure your lungs, spleen, blood vessels, or other parts of your body.

If you break a rib, you most likely will feel the bones rubbing together, which is a painful sensation. Also if sharp enough, they could poke your internal organs causing damage, or poke through your skin if in the right direction. If you break a rib please seek immediate medical attention. If you think you have broken a rib, please seek a medical professional for x-rays. IN SHORT: you will know if you have broken a rib.

You could die. If the attacker hits hard enough, that spot in your nose, called the "bridge", will break. The cartilage gets forced into the brain.
Of course you can, it doesnt matter where the "impact" came from, weather it is a car, or stairs or someones fist, it can still break or fracture your ribs. If someone is hitting you, there is no excuse for it, and I advise you to seek professional help such as the police or a counselor or whatever, but you should not just leave yourself in a situation where someone is hitting you...its never acceptable.
