How do you start a grand prix on Mario kart wii?

Turn on the wii.press Mario Kart Wii channel. click start. then go to the file page. press your file. if you dont have a file then just click on an empty one and it will get created. then go to single player and press grand prix. after that select your character, kart, race, and cup and then just start racin!!!!!!

if you mean the shell, banana, leaf, and lightning cup then all you have to do is press down on the control pad when you get to the mushroom cup
