Have never experienced "white balls of foam" in pool. It could be that your filter is dirty and needs cleaning. Or that you have added a certain type of algacide to the pool. Does the foam seem to appear if the water is agitated? Is the foam a dirty brownish color? What are your chemistry levels - chlorine, pH, alkalinity, conditioner? How old is the water in the pool? What is the bather load - how many people at a time?

What are foam balls made of?

It starts with a plastic known as styrene. Liquid or soft styrene has air or gasses forced through it, causing it to expand or foam up. Styrene+ foam= styrofoam. The material gets lighter as it foams up, and later solidifies.

How do you build a 3D helium atom?

Building a helium atom model is one of the more simple projects kids and parents will face for school. A helium atom contains two protons, two neutrons and two electrons. The nucleus of a helium atom consists of the protons and neutrons. This will be the four center Styrofoam(TM) or foam craft balls in the model. The electrons will be the two outer balls that are stationed on the rings. To build the helium atom model pictured you will need the following supplies.Supply list to build a helium atom modelBanana tree2 - five inch crafts rings.4 - One and a half inch Styrofoam(TM) or foam craft balls to make the neutrons and protons3 - One inch Styrofoam(TM) or foam craft balls to make electrons (Use of the extra craft ball will be explained later)Red, blue and green craft paint (Spray paint is not recommended)4 to 6 toothpicksFishing line or threadClear tapeDull bladed knifeStraight pinsGluePaint your foam craft ballsPaint two of the large one and a half inch balls red. Paint two more of the one and a half inch balls blue. These are your protons and neutrons for the helium atom model. Next, paint three of the small one inch foam balls green. Two of these will form the electrons for the helium atom model. Be sure to paint the extra foam craft ball for use later. Allow to dry.Holding the two craft rings, push one ring inside the otherWhen in position, add a strip of tape to hold in place.Connect your four large foam craft balls with toothpicksPut together one red and one blue ball by pushing a toothpick all the way in. Do the other red and blue ball the same way. Once these are connected, take toothpicks and connect the two separate pieces. Your colors should alternate so that you do not have two reds or two blues side by side. These four foam craft balls form the nucleus for the helium atom model.Attach fishing line and hangLoop the string through the middle of the four connected balls and tie. Hang this from the hook on the banana tree.Add smaller foam craft balls on ringsTake the two smaller foam craft balls for your electrons and carve an indentation half way through the balls. This will allow them to slip onto the rings. Once in place, take the extra foam ball and carve out a tiny wedge to glue over the opening on the electrons. Remember that only one ball should be on each ring.Assemble and labelHang the metal rings on the banana tree and adjust the helium atom model. Label your helium atom model and use straight pins to keep in place.Construction of this helium atom model should not take more than an hour. I made this helium atom model for under ten dollars using many of the things I found in my own home. Be creative and search out things you already have on hand to keep expenses to a minimal. Remember to enjoy the time spent building your helium atom and have fun with your kids along the way.

Is fire extinguishing foam corrosive?

Yes. Firefighting foam is normally used in diluted form - 1-6% foam and 94-99% water, depending on the application. This reduces its corrosive effects, but the pure agent can be quite damaging to equipment over time. Eg: On the Antarctic FD (Mcmurdo Station, Antarctica) we bought 4 new air rescue firefighting vehicles in 2005 which we filled with a non-freezing undiluted foam/antifreeze mix. When we attempted to use the vehicles for the first time in 2007, the brass fittings on the foam lines blew apart in several places as soon as they were charged, rendering the truck useless. This was due to corrosion by the foam agent, which had leaked past the check valves and filled the foam lines for an extended time.

How do you know when it is time to get new pool balls?

If any pool balls are scuffed or damaged enough that you can see it by looking at them, they should be replaced. Pool balls wear under normal play and actually get out of round, but this is nearly impossible to tell. If they look worn, and cleaning them doesn't change that condition, it is highly likely they are out of round and should be replaced.

How do colored balls move after being struck by a white ball during a pool game?

The ball struck will move by transfer of the cue ball energy in direct proportion to the angle at which it is struck, and will also gain rotational momentum based upon the cue balls rotational momentum and the time period of their contact.

Is there such thing as quiet billiard balls?

All pool balls are quiet until they collide with another ball. This happens only for a very brief fraction of a second during the typical pool shot. Pool balls cannot be made of any other material that will change the sound they make on impact, so they cannot be quieter than they already are.
