All things considered, I would expect it to help your game. There are a number of reasons this for this:
1) If you are sacrificing accuracy for this much speed, moving to a lighter ball may allow you to get the same velocity with a bit more control.
2) If fatigue causes you to bowl worse at the end of the series, a lighter ball may improve your endurance.
3) If you find yourself leaving a lot of 9-pins (for a righty), your ball may be driving through the pins too hard and not deflecting enough. A lighter ball will deflect more as it moves through the rack.
On the other hand, you may find yourself overpowering a 14-pound ball when you're used to a 16.
I'd recommend going down to a 15-pound ball, unless pain or an injury is the main motivation for going to a 14-pound ball.
