Remember: 'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder'?
To be competitive, women have to toughen up and that is not what society generally expects of a woman. Popular expectation is that she will be soft and warm and pretty and pure (etc). To many men in particular and women too no doubt, a strong and muscular woman will have some of the natural 'male' appearance aspects and so visually she may not appeal to the majority of people (in terms of how women are generally evaluated). So, many women (in sport) look masculine - TRUE, and unattractive - TRUE from some perspectives.
Question for you: Would you rather be feminine and beautiful and live in obscurity in a shack in Africa, or masculine and 'unattractive' but lauded throughout the World as a fantastic athlete (think of some of the Kenyan and other African champion athletes....) and be wealthy and comfortable in life?
