The Olympic Games played in 2002 were the Winter Olympics and there was no long jump contested. In the 2000 Summer Olympics, Ivan Pedroso of Cuba won the men's competition with a jump of 8.55 meters and Heike Drechsler of Germany won the women's competition with a jump of 6.99 meters. In the 2004 Summer Olympics, Dwight Phillips of the United States won the men's competition with a jump of 8.59 meters and Tatyana Lebedeva of Russia won the women's competition with a jump of 7.07 meters.
