The Cardinals will probably want to resign him and Holliday will probably want to return to the Cardinals, but the main issue is money and their other options.

Allen Craig has been great in Memphis hitting 26 homeruns, a .322 batting average, and 83 RBIs.

Rick Ankiel is also a free agent after this year. In the later part of the year, he's started hitting a lot better and is the best defensive outfielder the Cardinals currently have.

DeRosa (who may or may not be resigned) as well as Schumaker can also play Left Field especially since the Cardinals have Julio Lugo for another year and a most likely Joe Thurston. I doubt Troy Glaus or Khalil Greene will be resigned. However, Schumaker just converted to second base and they probably won't move him back after having a good defensive year, and DeRosa is a natural infielder.

Joe Thurston can also play Left Field and has a much cheaper contract than Matt Holliday, but Thurston is more of a utility guy.

Stavinoha seems like he may be on the Cardinals next year after being a decent player each time he had a call up earlier in the year. He can play Left Field.

One thing I do think though is that Holliday is a fan favorite and therefore may still be resigned. Right now it's 50-50.
