It was because people were threatened by people that were different then them and they felt that they were different inside as well as outside and that they could not relate to them.

Because people felt threatened by them because the color of there skin was different

That is a sociological question more than it is a Baseball question. The fact is the signing of Jackie Robinson initiated the Civil Rights Movement in the United States.
