Manchester was owned by Londonderry at the time. any way every time the obtained a new area they named it after their home town in Ireland, Derry. they used it as grazing land for their cows and then later a man built the canals and called it the Manchester of America. shortly after he died and Derryfield/Manchester (around this time ish they changed the name to Manchester)became the biggest producer of textiles on the planet. Beating out Manchester England. prior to all of this most of Rockingham county was called Nutfield until the towns started dividing into smaller towns.
