There are five oceans that span the Earth, which cover more than seventy percent of its surface. Two of these oceans, the Southern Ocean and the Arctic Ocean, do not extent north and south of the equator.

It is because as we move towards the poles, the extent between two longitudes decreases, that means they come closer and closer. This is however not the case with latitudes. Therefore though the numerical difference between latitudes and longitudes of India is same, it covers more land from North to South as compared to from East to West.
it is because there is much difference between latitudes than the longitudes soare between latitudes increses but the area between the logitudes is lesser in comaparison and that is why the area fron north to south is more .
Cause we have to minus the two eastern and western most extremes of India ! And its the same for north and south - by kitty
