Why the US Football Association from 1913 changed its name to US Soccer Football Association in 1945 and then drop the word Football in 1974?

They changed it because of American football (Gridiron) in America, namely the Gridiron Super Bowl that goes on now.
AnswerAmerica tried to usurp football with Gridiron (American football). They have failed to do this but gridiron is still popular in the USA.Football continues to grow worldwide as gridiron struggles to get a foot hold worldwide.
The Australian football association has changed it's name to football from the nickname soccer so the USA and Canada remains alone in calling football by its nickname soccer.
