They do not have strong hind-quarters and a horse for barrel racing needs them to be able to do fast turns.

Just about any type of horse can be trained to do barrel racing. Some horses are just naturally better at it then other horses. Usually you want a horse that is fast and can turn fast. Alot of people use QH and paints. I have Ridden a mustang and a paint in barrel racing and they both did very well.
There are many horses that do very well in barrel racing. many people use quarter horses or paints, i have also seen many appys. I personaly have done barrel racing with a pinto and a mustang and both did very well. you just need a horse that is fast and can turn fast.

barrel racing is about you and your horse trusting each other. And going around all three barrels and getting really close to them without knocking them over... Your goal is to beat everybody out and get the best time.
