Why is Colt McCoy not projected to be a first round pick in the 2010 NFL draft?

Colt McCoy was a great quarterback during his stay at the University of Texas, but he is not considered to be the top (or the second best) quarterback coming out of college.

Sam Bradford out of Oklahoma and Jimmy Clausen out of Notre Dame are rated as the two best quarterbacks by NFL draft expert Mel Kiper and by most other experts.

In the first round, most NFL teams want to get a quality player without taking a huge risk. Sam Bradford and Jimmy Clausen appear as locks to be great quarterbacks in the NFL, but Colt McCoy may need a little work.

At 6-2, his height is adequate, but not that great. Most NFL GM's and scouts prefer quarterbacks to be 6-4 or 6-5, and at 210 lbs, Colt is also a little light at his position. Should he gain some weight, his stock might be a little higher, but still too risky for most NFL teams. They want surefire stars in the first round or they will take the confident pick in a defensive end, center, offensive tackle, etc.
