An option quarterback gets hit a lot and takes a lot of punishment. NFL teams don't want their QBs, who they expect to pass often, to get hit a lot and be prone to being injured.
Currently (2009), however, the Tennessee Titans have been running it with Chris Johnson at Running Back and Vince Young at Quarterback.
