∙ 10y agoRemoving your shirt as part of a celebration, such as after a goal, can be considered unsporting behavior since it often serves to taunt the opposing team or incite their fans. As a form of excessive celebration, it can also cause a delay to the restart of play, which is a separate yellow-card offense. Referees will only show one yellow card, even though two rules were broken, because they would be for the same act.
Not all cases of shirt removal are against the rules, however. A player may remove their shirt to replace it with a new one if it becomes torn, bloody, or otherwise unserviceable. This is also allowed when a player changes places with the goalkeeper.
