Major League Baseball schedules are designed to minimize travel as much as possible. Teams will usually host other teams for three (sometimes four) games. A single-game series between two teams is usually quite rare, and only done in the cases of two teams needing to play a one-game playoff (in the case of a divisional or wild-card tie), or make up a game that was suspended/canceled due to weather or other cause.
