The Kentucky Derby is held in Louisville Kentucky. If you stay anywhere close it is going to be pricy and you need to book very early. You can get packages at some hotels like The Brown Hotel . There is an Econo Lodge which is fairly economical or the Fairfield Inn.
The horses in the Kentucky Derby are all Thoroughbred's, and as such will all have the same basic conformation. That said some will be taller or shorter in height, colors will vary, and over all proportions will differ slightly.
The popular sport in Kentucky is probably College Basketball and/or College Football. This is because teams like Kentucky and Louisville are great at both of these sports. Also, the Kentucky Derby runs on the first Saturday, every May.

No. He isn't yet qualified to run. In order to run in the Kentucky Derby, a horse must be one of only twenty horses who have earned the most in graded stakes. Nicanor has no earnings in graded stakes whatsoever, he has only run three races and did not win one of them. He seems to have potential, though. Like many people, perhaps just give him time.

Kentucky (my state) is a good place to visit because many concerts happen here {Lady Gaga,Elton John,Justin Bieber} have come because of the new KFC Yum! Center also the Kentucky Derby of course and also parades ,wildest parties, and big events happen about 3 weeks before leading up to the the Kentucky Derby although it may not seem like a popular state many people have come here for the reasons mentioned. I did not want to move all the way down here as i see now it is very beautiful.
The selection of horses to run in the Triple Crown begins with horses meeting what are called "race conditions" for the Kentucky Derby; conditions stipulate the age, gender and past performance requirements each horse must meet to enter a given race. The Kentucky Derby is written for 2 year-olds, fillies and colts, [here it says something like "...non-winners of x number of races..." and/or "winners of x number..."] The winner of the Kentucky Derby gets to run in the Preakness, and the winner of the Preakness gets to run in the Belmont. So the "selection process" begins with being eligible to run the Derby.
More then a few will make a meal out of Kentucky Fried Chicken while some will have a Hot Brown and Derby Pie. In truth they eat very much like most Americans although a few specialty meals like Burgoo and chocolate chip pie exist.
