In general, Koreans like Taekwondo because it is their national Martial Art and sport, and it was developed in Korea, by Koreans in a time when Korean national pride was recovering from a 35 year oppression of Japanese occupation, and forced cultural genocide. Taekwondo is based in its core principles, philosophy, and primary technical tactics on native Korean Martial Art and warrior training that stems back thousands of years to the point when the Korean peninsula was first settled.

Taekwondo has also become a very popular Martial Art world wide with the sport aspect of Taekwondo being made a part of the Olympic Summer Games. This has helped Korea, not only financially, but in popularity as an emerging democracy since WWII, and the end of the Korean War.
