The University of Central Florida began its football program in 1979. In Division III and Division II, Central Florida never even qualified to play in the post season playoff tournament. As a member of Division I-FCS (formerly Division I-AA), UCF never advanced past the third round of the playoffs.
Since joining Division I-FBS (formerly Division I-A) in 1996, Central Florida has rarely put together solid seasons worthy of national recognition. In 2013, Central Florida finished with a program-best record of 12-1, but due to an abysmally weak "strength of schedule," UCF was not seriously considered for a national championship game invitation.
