In honor for her being one of the greatest Olympic champions in Australia's history. Betty won 4 Olympic gold medals, 3 of which (100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 4x100 meter relay) came at the 1956 Summer Games in Melbourne. She won her fourth gold medal in the 400 meter dash at the 1964 Summer Games in Tokyo and is the only athlete in Olympic history to have won individual gold medals at the 100 meter, 200 meter, and 400 meter distances.
Cathy Freeman
Cathy Freeman was one the last torch bearers in the 2000 Olympics opening ceremony in Sydney, Australia. Australia is her home country. I'm sure officials wanted to showcase an Aborijane who did good and show that the world. Freeman went on to win a Gold Medal later on in the Olympics.
