men can too but in synchro it is just a matter of not enough men choosing to take part
Synchronized swimming and parallel uneven bars in gymnastics
Yes, men compete in synchronized swimming to this day, but not many.
Men don't compete in the Olympics for rhythmic gymnastics
No, Naazmi retired from her gymnastics career after the 2008 commonwealth games when she won 3 gold medals. She is now a rhythmic gymnastics coach.
gymnastics, swimming, 100m sprint and cycling
Mexican athletes in the 2008 Games will compete in Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Canoeing, Cycling, Diving, Equestrian, Fencing, Gymnastics, Judo, Modern Pentathlon, Rowing, Sailing, Shooting, Swimming, Synchronized Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Triathlon, Volleyball, Weightlifting, and Wrestling.
Brazil, Spain, Russia, Ukraine, Greece, China. Apparently there are only 6.
Synchronized swimming and rhythmic gymnastics are for women only. Softball was another - it has been dropped but a campaign is mounting to reinstate it at the 2012 London games. Some other events have a slightly different male and female version. For example, in speed swimming only women compete at 800m and only men compete at 1500m. Another example in track and field: men compete in the decathlon (10 events); women in the heptathlon (7 events).
Synchronized swimmers from different countries compete against each other. At the Olympics, eight countries swim for the same medals. Some colleges have synchro teams that compete against other college teams. Think of a synchro meet as being like a figure skating competition - everybody wants to be in first place and there are no real "losers."
The 2008 Games in Beijing was the last Olympics where only men competed in boxing. Women will compete in boxing at the 2012 Games. Only women compete in synchronized swimming.
There are three types of gymnastics- Artistic, aerobic and Rythmic. Artistic- this is when gymnasts compete indivdually on many different pieces of equipment such as vault, floor, bars and beam Aerobic- This involves teams where gymnasts are thrown by other gymnasts and perform things like sommersaults/flips. They only use the floor. Rythmic- this is when gymnasts compete individually and perform on floor and use things like hoops, ribbons and balls. It involves more dance and flexibility then the other types of gymnastics.
There are six different types of gymnastics. These are; womens artistic, mens, rhythmic, trampoline and tumbling, acro, and group. In womens artistic gymnastics, there are 4 events; vault, uneven bars, balance beam and the floor exercise. Women can specialize in any of these events or compete in the all-around. In mens gymnastis, there are 6 events; floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bars, and the high bar. Again, men can specialize in any of these events or compete in the all-around. In rhythmic gymnastics, there are 4 events; clubs, hoops, rope, and ball. Women can specialize in any of these events or compete in the all-around. In tramp and tumbling, there are 4 events; trampoline, synchronized trampoline, double mini trampoline, and tumbling. These gymnasts can specialize in any of these apparatuses or compete them all (however there is no all-around competition) In acro gymnastics, there different events based on who makes up the group. There is; women's pair, women's group, men's pair, and mixed pair. For group gymnastics, there are two events; group jump and group floor exercise which each squad competes in. I hope this helped!
