Since the Mets have -
1) have an overall losing record ( 3,885 wins and 4,237 losses)
2) won only two Series titles in their entire history -- the same number as the Chicago Cubs and the Florida Marlins;
3) played in only four such series (1969, 1973, 1986, and 2000) -- fewer than the Phillies;
4) have not made the playoffs in any of the last six seasons;
5) haven't had a winning year in any of the last four seasons;
I'm not certain that your question makes any sense. It's fair to say that they aren't even the best National League team to have ever played in New York.
Cause they're better. Just kidding! It probably happened because they had a more well-thought out game plan or tactics. No one can ever really say why a team does or doesn't win.
They aren't.

There are two major league baseball teams in New York. The New York Yankees are in the American League and the New York Mets are in the National League.
Three Words......New York Mets

1962 I believe -- or right around there (within a year). It coincided the New York Mets coming into the league.
There are currently 2 Major League Baseball (MLB) The New York Yankees and The New York Mets. There used to be 3 when the Brooklyn Dodgers used to be around in the 50's,they have moved to California though.
That is just the way major league baseball makes the schedule. In 2010, the Yankees started on the road and the Mets started at home.
