The Speed skating skates have no stopper but if you are good at speed skating you don't need them. They have very large wheels to make them go faster. They don't have any ankle support so you must have very strong ankles, but if only just starting speed skating your ankles will get stronger as you progress.

The skates them self don't move unless someone moves them. But when you are wearing them they only move as fast as you. I guess you go to through alot or research to find the maximum velocity of a speed skate, but I don't know why you would want to do so :p

You get what you pay for. Expensive skates are usually worth the money, however cheaper skates are usually pretty good too. Note: They're made in China, so its unlikely the build quality will approach handmade custom skates from the United States, Canada, Japan, Netherlands and such.

No, because speed skates don't ware down, they are so hard it would take lots of usage to do so. It's sometimes a benefit to skate in used skates, they are broken in and therefore are a lot more comfortable.

the difference is the amount of blade that is touching the ice surface and the lbs per inch so with a longer blade it spreads the weight out more and you have less weight on your blades

If your looking for good skates, I would try looking for top-of-the-line skates from past years. Companies come out with new lines of products almost every year which makes the older models go down in price. The most famous "flying island" I know of is Laputa, from Gulliver's Travels. It's been a while since I've read it, but I don't recall the people there looking particularly strange (as opposed to acting strange), so you're going to have to do that part of your homework for yourself.

What is the difference between hockey skates and figure skates?
Figure skate blades are thicker, and the balance point is at the back, with more blade extending past the heel compared to hockey skates. They also have toe picks, to help with jumps and other maneuvers for figure skating. Figure skates are also "rockered" differently, meaning the blade curves differently, so turning is different in figure skates compared to hockey skates, as the balance is different. Figure skate blades are thicker, too, so they can be faster, as you have more blade contact to push off of. Hockey skates have no toe picks, as with toe picks, if you accidentally drag your foot or put it too far forward on the ice, you can fall. Also, hockey skates are balanced more neutrally, in the middle of the skate, which helps with recovering balance during the fast maneuvering and contact in the game. Hockey skates have thinner blades, so compared to figure skates, you're going to apply less power to the ice, but they glide a little bit easier than figure skates. Also, compared to figure skates, hockey skates have much tougher construction, as they have to be able to take pucks/sticks, etc.
