In turn, O'Malley persuaded New York Giants owner Horace Stoneham to move to San Francisco, effectively relocating the Dodgers-Giants rivalry to the West Coast. The moves presaged the expansion of baseball to every region of the continental United States, including the South and the Northwest, and Canada.
