However, during the season the Braves acquired 2b Red Schoendiest from the New York Giants in a trade that many feel solidified the team and help carry them to the pennant and the World Championship. In the trade, the Braves sent 2b Danny O'Connell, OF Bobby Thomson and Pitcher Jim Crone to the Giants to get the veteran Schoendiest.
