The Dallas "Steers" never played a game. The Steers name was changed to the Dallas Rangers, and then to Cowboys before the team ever played a game. Therefore the First Steer quarterback was also the Cowboys first quarterback, Eddie Lebaron.

In 1971 Chuck Howley of the Dallas Cowboys won the Super Bowl MVP for Super Bowl V, intercepting two passes and recovering a fumble in the Cowboys 16-13 loss to the Baltimore Colts. It was the first time that a defensive player received the honor and the first and so far only time a player from the losing team won the award.
Roger Staubach was the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys during the 1972 season. He began the calendar year as the winning quarterback of Super Bowl VI after a 24-3 victory over the Miami Dolphins on January 16, 1972.
It was Dallas wide receiver Lance Alworth, who caught a seven-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Roger Staubach near the end of the first half of Super Bowl VI. The score gave the Cowboys a 10-3 halftime lead over the AFC champion Miami Dolphins. Dallas went on to claim its first Super Bowl title with a 24-3 victory.
