Frenchman Jules Rimet (1873-1956) was the president of the French Football Federation from 1919-1946, and the president of FIFA from 1921-1954. Rimet was the longest-serving president of FIFA, and in fact served as president at the time of the foundation of the World Cup in 1930. In Rimet's honor, his name was given to the trophy won by the World Cup winning team.

The inaugural FIFA World Cup took place in 1930. The original world cup known as the 'Jules Rimet Trophy' named after the 3rd President of FIFA was designed by French sculptor Abel Lafleur. The trophy was given to Brazil after they won the world cup for the third time in 1970. It was stolen in 1983 and has never been recovered.
The last time Haiti qualified for the FIFA World Cup was in 1974.
