Thurman Munson (born June 7, 1947 in Akron, Ohio; died August 2, 1979 in Summit County, Ohio) was a Major League Baseball player who played with the New York Yankees for 11 seasons between 1969 and 1979.

Munson was a two-time World Series champion, the 1976 American League Most Valuable Player, and a seven-time All-Star.

Munson passed away a single day after his final professional MLB game - suffering a broken neck after landing his private airplane in Ohio. The official cause of death was asphyxiation.
