It's never been easy to completely shut down the Bronx Bombers. The last to do it were six Houston Astros pitchers. On June 11, 2003, they combined for a nine-inning no-hit game against the Yankees, winning 8-0 at Yankee Stadium. Houston's Roy Oswalt pitched a scoreless first inning, but was forced to leave the game with an injury after throwing to one batter in the second inning. He was then followed by Peter Munro (2.2 innings), Kirk Saarloos (1.1), Brad Lidge (2), Octavio Dotel (1) and Billy Wagner (1).

It was the largest number of pitchers ever to share a no-hit game, and the first time the Yankees were held hitless since 1958.

The Yankees organization has only been no-hit six other times:

+ On June 30, 1908, Cy Young of the Boston Red Sox defeated the New York Highlanders 8-0.

+ On June 21, 1916, Rube Foster, also of the Red Sox, shut down the pre-Babe Ruth Yankees, 2-0.

+ On Sept. 10, 1919, Ray Caldwell of the Cleveland Indians defeated another pre-Ruth Yankees team, 3-0.

+ On April 30, 1946, Bob Feller of the Cleveland Indians blanked the Yankees, 1-0.

+ On August 25, 1952, Virgil Trucks of the Detroit Tigers turned back the New Yorkers, 1-0. It was Trucks' second no-hit game of the season since he had hurled a gem against the Washington Senators in May.

+ On Sept. 20, 1958, Hoyt Wilhem of Baltimore Orioles no hit the Yanks, 1-0.
