The GAA was founded in Hayes Hotel in Thurles, Co. Tipperary, Ireland on November 1st 1884. The seven main founders were Michael Cusack, Maurice Davin (who presided) John Wyse Power, John McKay, J. K. Bracken, Joseph O'Ryan and Thomas St. George McCarthy. At least another 6 people were present. The GAA's largest venue, Croke Park in Dublin, has a stand called the Cusack Stand and another called the Davin Stand in honour of two of the founders. Semple Stadium, the GAA's second largest stadium, is in Thurles.
