Coach Don Norford has established the most successful High school Football program in the nation. Coach Don Norfordhas declined several NFL and College coaching positions. he trains the most NFL players in the off season, some who attended Poly and some who did not. long Beach Poly has produced more professional athletes than any other high school in the nation including football. Long Beach Poly had produced the most NFL players in the nation. Although Coach Don is well know for coaching football, he is also the head coach of Boys and Girls track & Field in which both the Boys and Girls have been ranked number #1 or top in the nation for many consecutive years & decades under his coaching and coaches before him.
Under the coaching of Don Norford & his staff, Long Beach Poly Football has maintained consecutive perfect seasons in the Moore League Division for decades, and went a decade of playing or winning CIF DIV 1 championships and Open Division Championships. Since coach Don Norford has taken time off from coaching for the 2009 season (coaching a consecutive 32 years). Poly suffered 2 division losses for the 09 season and suffered a playoff loss that cost them their trip to CIF championship game for the 09 season.
Rapper Snoop Doggy Dogg (Alumni) has made reference to coach Don on his reality television show, a you tube video and a song he made specifically for the Poly football team. Coach Don Norford is described by many including teachers, parents, students and athletes (including rapper Snoop and Former Patriots Star Willie Mcginest) as the most humble, loved and respected individual in the city of Long Beach and is known as Pappa Don to many.Long Beach Polytechnic high school is known for having the most students to receive the most academic and athletic scholarships in the nation. Poly is overall a great school, most of the teachers, staff and coaches attended Poly themselves ( including Norford) they are well respected leaders in the community. Long Beach Polytechnic was named the "SCHOOL OF THE CENTURY". This is a school where the students don't ditch on senior ditch day, they love going to school and they love their teachers, staff and coaches.

Coach Don Norford is known for being extremely humble and welcomes anybody from anywhere to his track, football field or just to speak with him if you need guidance. He's a man that gives all his glory to God.

Coach Don along with all the other Poly Staff including ex staff Naoimi Rainy and Mr. Coolins are very well respected individuals of the community of Long Beach and the surrounding areas. These people are really their to make a difference in the children's life. Specific programs at Poly that have earned much recognition are the PACE and CIC magnet programs. They are the most successful magnet programs in California and also Poly's has an excellent sports program aside from track and football, including waterpolo, Baseball, Girls & Boys Basketball, cross Country and a music program that has won 6 grammy's.
