Best Answer

darrell green 4.09 in the 40dash
no reggie bush 40dash 4.04
it was not reggie bush. In his prime darrell green was the only nfl player to run a 3.9 when he got old he ran a 4.2 he is also the fastest player in nfl history. the best kick returner as well

Reggie Bush has never clocked anything better than the low 4.3's.
The fastest running back right now is Chris Johnson who was timed at 4.24.
The timing of the 40 yard dash is very suspect though, even the fastest sprinters in the world usually claim to be around 4.4 seconds.

Answer

The best running backs are Jim Brown and Walter Payton

The all-time best is considered to be Barry Sanders due to the fact that he played in an era of dominant run stopping defenses, and also had a horrible team. (The Detroit Lions).

Often he would have to Dodge at least 4 defenders on a single play to make 5 yards due to the fact that he never had any decent blockers.

Chris Johnson is the best or Adrian Peterson. Adrian Peterson had a bad season this year, but Johnson still remains great. I would have to say Chris Johnson for the titans is the best running back.

I wold have to say Rahard Mendenhal for the Steelers.

This is an opinion question. Add yours at the bottom.

Emmitt Smith (1990's) or Jim Brown (1960's).

---

Or Gayle Sayers, in the late sixties.

---

Barry Sanders, who left football in 1997 just before he could set the all-time NFL rushing record.

---

Walter "Sweetness" Payton with the 1985 Bears.

---

Adrian Peterson (2010's?)

---

Jim Brown, Cleveland Browns-1950's & 1960's- He departed as the NFL record holder for both single-season (1,863 in 1963) and career rushing (12,312 yards), as well as the all-time leader in rushing touchdowns (106), total touchdowns (126), and all-purpose yards (15,549). He was the first player ever to reach the 100-rushing-touchdowns milestone and is the only rusher in NFL history to average over 100 yards per game for a career
