Latvia's first Olympic competition was at the 1924 Winter Games in Chamonix. They sent two athletes to compete, speed skater Alberts Rumba and cross country skier Roberts Plūme.

Rumba was the first to compete, skating in the men's 500 meters on January 26 and finishing 16th.
